Berkeley Yacht Club Community Service

Berkeley Yacht Club has a long tradition of service to the East Bay sailing and boating community. The club has always been active in supporting many aspects of recreational boating, and hosts a number of major competitive events each year. BYC runs one of the most accessible entry-level race series on the bay, and the BYC meeting facilities are available at extremely low rates to qualified non-profit boating organizaitons.

Berkeley Yacht Club is able to provide some assistance to young people interested in participating in the Junior Program offered by Olympic Circle Sailing Club. Awards are based on merit, need, and the amount of shcolarship funds available. Applicants must be between 14 and 18 years old.

Application for this program requires a letter from the student, letter from parent or guardian, and a financial statement. Applications are available at the club, or by mail from the Scholarship Committee, Berkeley Yacht Club, 1 Seawall drive, Berkeley, CA 94710.

In cooperation with the Cal Sailing Club, Berkeley Yacht Club supports sailboat rides for "at-risk" youth from community youth organizaitons. A grant from Berkeley Yacht Club recently financed the purchase of a set of 20 new life jackets for the Berkeley Youth Alternatives summer program.
