Electric wheelchairs are primarily designed to be used by those with very limited or no mobility. This can be caused by many factors. When purchasing an electric wheelchair please bear in mind the additional maintainence and servicing that they require.

There are many variations available now. New technologies are being implemented to increase strength, durability and maneuverability. The front wheel drive models are easier to maneuver, but loose out in the speed department. Other options maybe the ability to fold the frame, different kinds of foot and arm rests and lights. You will also need to consider the overall dimensions of any chair before you make a purchase.

There is excellent help available on purchasing the correct chair. If you want any further information then please visit our site.

Panic Disorder - The Frightening Truth

Panic disorder is an often misunderstood illness which may strike the afflicted person at any time, day or night. Some of the symptoms of this illness are sudden weakness, dizziness, tingling or numbness in the extremities, and nausea which is preceded by a sudden and overwhelming attack of terror.

A person with panic disorder may also have the feelings of being smothered for no apparent reason, possibly accompanied with chest pains and chills, or the victim may feel flushed. Those who are stricken with panic disorder may also suffer through bouts the feeling of doom and the fear of losing total control of their emotions.

Panic disorder can be very devastating to the unfortunate individual having the episode. The fear which is triggered by not knowing what is exactly going on physically has the potential in itself to double the negative effects of the panic disorder episode. During the attack, the afflicted sometimes believe that are experiencing a heart attack or losing their sanity entirely.

Sometimes panic disorder can be so severe that the individual is certain that they are going to die immediately. Panic disorder victims have no way of knowing how or when the next wave of terror will wash over them, causing them to worry excessively about when the next attack will strike. If intense enough, this fear alone can trigger the next attack.

One of the worst things about panic disorder is that the attacks are totally unpredictable, and can even strike while the individual is sleeping. Usually an attack will peak within ten minutes of onset, and generally subsides gradually thereafter.

Panic disorder affects women more than men, and it is estimated that more than six million Americans suffer from this dreaded malady. Those who are afflicted with the disorder begin to show symptoms in late adolescence or during early part of adulthood. Although it appears that the susceptibility to panic disorder seems to be an inherited trait, many will have only one episode and never show any signs again.

Those who suffer from severe and repeated bouts of panic disorder can find themselves very limited in where they are willing to go, or even where they are willing to live. They will attempt to avoid social situations, as well as any similar instances or places where they have had prior attacks. This can become quite disabling to the panic stricken individual.

In severe instances, some individuals will restrict their normal activities such as doctor appointments, shopping and even driving. About one third of the victims of panic disorder will become homebound because of the intenseness of the fear of, and during, an attack.

Panic disorder can often be tied together with drug abuse, alcoholism or depression. When this situation exists, then each separate problem must be addressed on its own. Only through separate treatment can the individual be made free of the accompanying ailments, and the panic disorder treated properly.

Every single day we are constantly hit by marketing gimmicks and sales pitches promising the sun, the moon and the stars for everyone. The Internet has evolved into a place where magic and miracles are easily gained, simply by a credit card transaction or the push of a PayPal order button.

I have to admit that I have become very cautious when it comes to purchasing any information products on the Internet. There have been numerous occasions after I bought a particular e-book using my credit card and found out that I could get the information for free! After all, the Internet is the information super-highway, and one could easily get his or her hands on anything if one desires to search high and low for it.

However, a few months back I was desperately seeking for some quality information on how to gain muscle mass fast and safe, without using any drugs or synthetic supplements that can affect the physical self in the long run. Although I have personally helped a lot of people on losing weight before, but gaining muscle mass is a slightly different area of expertise for me to handle.

After few days of searching every nook and cranny of the Internet, I managed to come across a couple of muscle building websites that offer quite an impressive amount of information on how to build up muscle. Naturally, some of these are free and some of them have to be purchased.

Fall Asleep - Without Pills or Tossing And Turning - Natural Sleep Remedy

No doubt you have heard of or used the practice of counting sheep as they jump over your headboard or through the air when you are unable to fall asleep. While this practice may work for some, there is another more empowering and worthwhile practice.

Insomniacs are more likely to fall asleep by imagining a relaxing scene than by counting sheep, scientists have found.

Researchers at Oxford University discovered that the traditional cure for sleeplessness, believed to date from the 19th century, does not work because it is just too boring to keep the mind from drifting to problems and concerns.

In an experiment, 50 insomniacs were asked to use different techniques to see which helped them to fall asleep more quickly. One group imagined a relaxing, tranquil scene like a waterfall or a beach. The second group counted sheep while a third were left to their own devices.

Those who conjured up the relaxing scene fell asleep more than 20 minutes earlier than if they did nothing. Those who counted sheep and the controls took slightly longer than normal to drop off.

The next time you have difficulty falling asleep calm yourself with loving thoughts. Recall a time, when you felt particularly loved and appreciated, or when you felt loving toward someone else. Recapture that feeling in mind, body and spirit—these feelings have a powerful calming effect and you can drift off to sleep. As you recall yourself feeling the strong sense of love in mind, body and spirit—recite this mantra. “I am filled with loving kindness. I am well. I am peaceful and at ease. I am happy.” Not only does this practice help you fall asleep easily, it gives your self-esteem a boost.

History of Essential Oils

Extracted from botanicals, that is, from plants and trees. They are part of the plants immune system processed by distillation but others such as the citrus oils may be extracted in different ways.

Essential Oils are all natural, so they work in harmony with nature.

They are more concentrated than the herbs they were extracted from and they contain hormones, vitamins, antiseptics that work on our immune systems.

Essential Oils are up to 100 times more concentrated than dried herbs, so they must be used with caution.

Essential oils to a greater lesser extents are antiseptic (it combats infection), bactericide (they kill bacteria or inhibit the growth of bacteria), when applied to the skin the generally promote cell rejuvenation and assist all kinds of skin problems.

They may be inhaled, applied to the skin (usually with a carrier oil) or they may be taken internally under the supervision of a qualified practitioner. It is not safe for an individual to take internally without the assistance of a practitioner because they are extremely concentrated.

Mixed in a carrier oil generally would contain bout 2% essential oil and 98% carrier oil. Carrier oils could include Jojoba, which in fact is not an oil but rather an Ester which contains lots of Vitamin E and is favored by massage therapists as it never turn rancid and when used alone does not discolor the sheets they work with. Others may include Almond, Walnut,Etc. The most popular being Almond, it has a limited shelf life, so often massage therapists will request that we mix 10% Jojoba with 90% Almond to extend it’s shelf life.

They have been with us since antiquity. Certainly the Egyptians mastered the art for therapeutic reasons and learned allot about them using the oils to embalm the great citizens, the pharaohs and high priests who died. Eventually, the ability to do this led the high priest, who was also the Aromatherapists of the day, to apply the therapeutic benefits to themselves and other people in the Egyptian society.

This use continued for many thousands of years but was largely abandoned in the US around the 1850′S when we entered what we call the Age of Science and abandoned the Age of Sensible medicine, being mostly continued in Europe and certainly Asia for the benefit of the people in those societies.

Their use recently returned to the US because of the eventual failure of antibacterial’s to cure allot of the illnesses that they used to cure. Essential oils being very complex were very difficult for bacteria and viruses to defend themselves from and also had the benefit of little or no side effects contrary to medicines that you see on the pharmacy shelves today.

There are many books written about aromatherapy essential oils and their application and also giving us a descriptive knowledge of our sense of smell and why they are so effective whether inhaled or put upon our skin.

One booklet that is good to begin with is Carol Corlo’s book “Enhance the Quality of Life with Aromatherapy”. It is only 19 pages but is a great introduction to Aromatherapy and from there is your interest is increased you can go onto some of the fine books that appear in better bookstores everywhere
or see in your local libraries.

Essential Oils can influence our mood, they can pick us up when we are down, help us relax when we are feeling anxious.

Essential Oils also have a physical value. We are all familiar with Eucalyptus, Lavender & Tea Tree, that when inhaled or applied to the skin give relief from many illnesses or symptoms of many illnesses.

Skin Disorders Growths Warts

With both men and women wanting to look their best at all times, thanks to the celebrity fixation our generation seems to have, any kind of blemish to the skin is frowned on. Most can be hidden with make-up, such as a tiny mole or cut. However, if you have a wart, this is not so easy to hide and can lead to severe bouts of unhappiness. Thankfully, help is at hand.

Warts, or verrucas as they are sometimes known, are more common than you might think. Although you may feel you are the only person in the world ever to have had a wart, but most people will have had at least one wart in their lifetime. Adults and older children are usually the most susceptible to warts, although younger children can just as easily catch them.

They can be caused in numerous ways. The most common wart, which is the protruding type most people will be familiar with, usually occurs through a virus known as human papillomavirus, or HPV. Although not as serious as other skin afflictions, they can still cause health problems if left untreated. HPV has been recognized as one of the main causes of certain types of cancer, so it’s wise to treat a wart. The good thing about these types of warts is that they cannot be easily spread, unless the wart comes into contact with an open wound on someone.

Other types of wart include:

Flat warts, which are often the most visible as they tend to attach themselves to the face and neck areaFiliform warts, which again concentrate on the facial area, although these are narrower and longer than other typesPerlungual warts, a strain of which can be extremely painful, since they grow around and under fingernails, leading to sever discomfortDigitate warts, usually found on the scalp and rough in texture, with a shape not dissimilar to a fingerApart from the discomfort they cause, warts also have a less serious but just as problematic side effect — embarrassment. There’s a stigma attached to warts that suggests you must be unhygienic if you have a wart. Although they can certainly be caused in areas of poor hygiene, that’s not to say someone afflicted by them have low standards in that area. Since they are also ugly in appearance, especially facial warts, it can lead to people having low self-esteem and unwilling to be sociable. Sufferers often feel ugly and disfigured; such is the effect these sores can have. However, getting a wart does not mean you have to accept it and hide yourself away from the world. There are now dozens of treatments available in a variety of methods, that there will be at least one for you should you find yourself affected with this particular skin problem. It’s not just expensive treatments, either — there is a wide selection to suit all pockets, and there are even some you can make at home. The first type of treatment that can be used is by medical surgery. Speaking to your doctor about the problem will allow him to suggest various ways of treating your problem. These can range from laser treatment, to cryosurgery, which is the method of actually freezing the wart using liquid nitrogen. Once frozen, the cells feeding the wart die, and the wart and affected skin simply falls off. However, although permanent, it can take multiple sessions to fully eradicate the problem, so discuss the best option for you with your doctor.

The second way to treat warts is via your local supermarket or drug store, or anywhere that sells pharmaceutical health products. Some of the choices here include pads or jars of salicylic acid, which you apply to the infected area. You can also buy caustic pencils, which uses silver nitrate to destroy the damaged skin. However, this form of treatment can be very lengthy, with anything up to twelve weeks being the norm for the treatment to be successful. There is also the danger of damaging skin that is not infected, if the applicators are not used to their strict guidelines.

A third and very simple, yet fairly effective, way to treat warts if you cannot afford the various types of medicinal aid is in the form of everyday household duct tape. By wrapping a piece of duct tape around the skin infected, and leaving it for a week, you can get similar results to those which involve salicylic acid. There have even been studies that have shown this method to have a success rate of over 80 per cent.

Although warts can be painful and certainly ugly to look at, which can be distressing for anyone with facial warts or other types that are in plain view, they need not have the same stigma attached to them as in the past. With the realization that it’s only another skin complaint, like a rash or allergy, and that they can be treated relatively simply, you can feel confident that although a distraction, it’s minor and temporary.

Tried Everything And Still Embarrassed About Your Weight

Perhaps you have been reading and trying all the diet programs and you are tired of trying each new plan that hits the market. The most important thing to understand is that most plans for healthy weight loss do work, and they require effort from you. How about a plan which is easy to follow, is healthy, and lets you go out and eat without eating “rabbit food” all the time. Would not that sound terrific!

Ask your doctor about weight loss…he will probably tell you that it is a simple formula that calculates the fats stored in your body. Simply stated, it is Calories In Less Calories Out with the balance left as fat stored in your body. With nutritional meals available why do you carry the excess around?

You can find programs with diets Low in Calories, Low in Fat, and Low in Carbohydrates. That sounds good, but why count calories or read labels all the time. Your weight loss should be slow and steady and you should continue on a balanced diet so that you do not put the weight you lost back on.

The one you should be on is a balanced food intake without leaving you hungry and at the same time balanced so that you get all the nutrients your body needs in their proper timing,

One of the biggest excuses that people who are overweight use is to blame it on their thyroid gland. Hey, that is easy to find out. Ask your doctor. If he says that you are hyperthyroid, that means your body is metabolizing your food intake very well. If he says that you are hypothyroid, that tells him, and you, that you are not metabolizing your food intake properly, thus you store the unused food and store it as fat. If the latter is the case, he can prescribe a drug which builds up the action of the thyroid gland. Otherwise, you have no excuse except to follow a program which balances your caloric intake.

Whatever the course you take, choose a healthy program which provides you with proper nutrition and balanced caloric intake.

The final suggestion is for you to enjoy your life and take care of yourself.

The Value Of Sleep

Getting the right amount of sleep is essential for a long life and personal effectiveness. Yet in today’s ever-changing, fast-paced, and often pressure packed world making sure you get the right amount of sleep every day is rarely a concern.

If you don’t get enough sleep your work suffers. In fact, every single study in the area of health shows that you will be far more productive if you get the right amount of sleep. Insufficient sleep makes you feel cranky, dysfunctional, and even depressive.

The administrators of these health studies often recommend that you not only need the right amount of sleep each night but you should also to include time for a nap every day. Our bodies benefit from taking a nap. In fact, studies conducted by the National Sleep Foundation show that our biological systems are programmed for a midday rest, which might account for the common post-lunch slump that people often experience.

Most people today work at least eight hours and day and usually more, therefore they don’t have time for midday naps, but part-time employees and those on flexible schedules should take a nap if they can. If you’re working a full time work schedule then you should try to grab a nap on the weekends.

History books tell us that our forefathers probably slept through the night, hunted in the early morning, then escaped the midday heat by napping in a shady spot. Mexican workers make time for a midday nap or siesta and have a very productive work day. Unfortunately for the American workers because of everyday demands taking a nap during the day has become a not only a thing of the past but a sign of weakness or even laziness if you do it.

Taking a nap relaxes your body, improves your mood, clears your mind, and offers a break from the stressful pace of life. Studies show that an afternoon nap may also help you by-pass heart disease. These studies show that, people living in countries where taking an afternoon nap is customary show a significantly lower rate of heart attacks and coronary disease.

It is also important to get a good night’s rest. Researchers have found that the internal chemicals that trigger slow-wave sleep also rouse the immune system into action. These chemicals defend the body against viral and bacterial infections, and maybe even cancer. Even though the body is conserving energy during sleep it is also busy repairing tissues, renewing itself.

The brain too requires sleep. It rarely relaxes when we’re awake. Even though our subconscious mind continues to work while we sleep and we often have restless dreams, sleeping is still a relaxing time for our conscious mind.

If you’re irritable, listless, or low on energy, consider adding nap to your schedule. Make sure you get seven to eight house of sleep every night, but don’t go over eight hours because too much sleep is not good for you and can be counterproductive. Try hot baths before bed, and exercise in the morning as opposed to the evening.

Millions of people suffer from insomnia because they worry at night about all the things they have to do the following day. Much of this needless worry at night can be corrected by simply planning for the next day before you go to sleep. Spend five or ten minutes before you go to sleep writing down all the things you need to do the next day. Go over your daily planner and write down everything you have to do starting with the most important to the least important. Write down your goals and the problems you have to solve.

The act of writing out your entire day before you go to sleep will usually take the worries away from you conscious mind, allowing you to sleep more soundly and allow your subconscious mind to go to work on solving your problems and achieving your goals. When you wake up in the morning, you will often have insights and ideas that you can use to make solve your problems and make your goals a reality.

When you’re fully rested, eating well, and exercising properly you’ll become a more positive, optimistic, and cheerful person. You will wake up in the morning with a feeling that there is nothing you cannot do if you put your mind to it.

Cholesterol Levels

Do you know that every year, about 500,000 persons in America suffer from heart disease? One of the main reasons behind this huge number is high cholesterol levels. According to studies, if people lower their cholesterol levels, the risk of heart disease will be reduced by up to 40 percent. But what are these cholesterol levels?

Cholesterol levels include the numbers that will indicate whether the cholesterol in your body is desirable, borderline, or less desirable and high risk. By knowing these levels, you will become aware of your condition, allowing you to take the necessary measures to reduce the risk of heart disease. If your cholesterol has already reached the high-risk level, you can seek medical attention at once for cholesterol medication.

The numbers of cholesterol levels include the average figures for total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol.

The total cholesterol is HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol combined. The ideal level for this is approximately 200mg/dL or less. This is a desirable level and means that you have a relatively small risk of heart attack. But if the level is 200 to 240mg/dL, it is already considered borderline. Any figure higher than 240mg/dL means you are at a high risk for both heart attack and stroke. Meanwhile, the desirable level for HDL cholesterol level is above 45mg/dL, the HDL borderline is 35 to 45mg/dL, and high risk is below 35mg/dL. For LDL cholesterol, the desirable figure is below 130mg/dL, borderline is 130 to 160mg/dL, and high risk is above 160mg/dL.

Aside from these numbers, there are two other ways to get a complete reading on cholesterol levels: the total cholesterol and HDL ratio, and the LDL and HDL ratio.

The total cholesterol and HDL ratio is considered desirable at 4.5 and below, borderline is 4.5 to 5.5, and high risk is above 5.5. The LDL and HDL ratio, on the other hand, is considered desirable at 3 and below, borderline is 3 to 5, and high risk is above 5.

All these numbers can help you monitor your cholesterol levels. If your level is still desirable, it is best to maintain it by sticking to a healthy diet and exercise. If your cholesterol level is already at high risk for heart disease, you should seek medical attention at once.

How To Get Your Life Back After Heart Disease Strikes

Heart disease often destroys lives, particularly heart attack that can strike suddenly and without warning. It is estimated that half of all people who suffer a heart attack may die even without reaching hospital for treatment. People who survive from heart attacks are often disabled both mentally and physically.

Being an essential program that helps such people rebuild their lives, cardiac rehabilitation can also assist people who have congestive heart failure, or who have undergone coronary artery bypass surgery, coronary angioplasty, pacemaker insertion or heart valve surgery.

Cardiac rehabilitation usually takes place in a hospital and is suitable for most patients after their initial heart problems. It aims to help patients understand and better manage their heart disease. Doctors, specialist nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals are included in the rehabilitation team. Cardiac rehabilitation can provide guidance for people to change their lifestyles, which includes establishing good dietary and exercise habits. The goals are to improve cardiac risk factors such as smoking, cholesterol, high blood pressure, weight loss, diabetes control, and fitness levels. The ultimate aim is to enable heart patients to resume their normal lives and to prevent deterioration of their heart conditions.

During the program, heart patients are monitored regularly for changes in heart rate, blood pressure and ECG. The structured exercise regime employs treadmill, stationary cycle and resistance training using weights if appropriate for strengthening. Level of exercise is tailored to suit each individual person.

The first outpatient phase of cardiac rehabilitation usually comprises 3 sessions weekly of an hour per session. The length of this phase generally lasts for 6 to 12 weeks though it may vary from case to case. The main focus of this phase is to pitch the patient’s exercise routine to achieve better fitness and strength. This phase is then followed by regular maintenance to preserve the level of fitness already achieved earlier and should continue indefinitely.

According to some studies, exercise and participation in cardiac rehabilitation can prevent further deterioration in people with heart disease. In the national heart disease and exercise program conducted in United States, the death rate of people with heart disease who exercised regularly was reduced by 37 percent compared to people who were sedentary. Another study conducted by Stanford University showed that people with coronary artery disease who adopted intensive change in lifestyle and appropriate medications had reduced narrowing of their heart arteries at the end of a 4-year period.
